Okmulgee Dunbar School recognized students in grades 5-8 during special programs Wednesday. Students received recognition in math, language arts, social studies, and other classes. A special recognition was given to JLee Jones by Sheryl Shipley, Dean of Students. This school year, Dunbar started a ‘kindness tree’ that was posted in the cafeteria, which allowed students, teachers and parents to place the name of a peer that had performed a random act of kindness. By the end of the school year, the tree was overflowing with the names of a kind person. Recognized for her many acts of kindness was Jlee Jones as an outstanding person. According to Shipley, the tree will again be used next year, thanks to the overwhelming response given it. PATRICK FORD
