Our house was on a dirt road five miles out of town. Our closest neighbor lived a quarter of a mile away. The next closest was one mile. The schools were five or more miles away, depending on which one you attended. The buses picked up the country students and transported them to and from school. However, if you were involved in extracurricular activities such as sports, or band, etc., you needed to find another way home.
