Historic structure getting new life
Isn’t it a bit ironic how just a simple twist of fate has saved some historic old buildings from the wrecking ball? Such was the destiny for the oldest hospital building in Oklahoma to be built to exclusively serve African American patients, dubbed the Okmulgee City Colored Hospital. (Note: Lewis explained that even though the word “colored” is no longer used to denote a race of people, the 1984 National Registry of Historical Buildings has to list it that way because that was the title it was built on).
