Takija Gaddis of Okmulgee has been selected to participate in the 2023 Miss Oklahoma USA Pageant. She will be competing as Miss Okmulgee during the event which will be held March 25-26 in Oklahoma City at the OCC Visual & Performing Arts Center on the OKC Community College campus.
Gaddis, a 2014 graduate of Okmulgee High School, will compete in active wear or swimsuit, evening gown, and personal interview.
The pageant has two age divisions, and the winners will represent Oklahoma in the 2023 Miss USA Pageant. The winner of that contest will then go on to compete in the Miss Universe Pageant.
Gaddis, who is a flight attendant for a private airline in Georgia, has taken time off from her career to compete in the pageant.
“There was just no way I could work, fly and get ready for Miss Oklahoma,” she said. “Once it’s over, I will be right back flying.”
Miss Okmulgee enjoys traveling, going for scenic walks, and visiting art museums. She is also interested in becoming a pilot, which is a future goal she has set.
Gaddis took time out this week to become more familiar with the community again, including visiting and interviewing Leman Lewis about the historical Black Hospital, and the efforts to bring the building back to life for the community. She was excited to learn about the hospital, and its impact on Okmulgee, and the hope for future generations.
