Steven R. Baldridge has been elected the mayor of Okmulgee. The current vice mayor won the election Tuesday by a 76-vote margin over challenger Terry Watkins. Baldridge received 383 votes or 55.5 percent of the ballots to Watkins’ 307 or 45.5 percent. Elsewhere, Kathy Stricker won the Morris Council Ward 3, Seat B race. Stricker collected 39 votes (54.2%) to challenger Sarah Siegenthaler-Amador’s 33 votes (45.8%). In Beggs, Jack Bell won the mayor’s race over Regina Thompson in the Council Ward 1 race, Teresa Jamison defeated Walter Benjamin. In the Ward 3 race, James E. ‘Smitty’ Smith won over Viola Crouch. In Henryetta, the Mayor’s race was won by Bill Goodner over Ronnie Duke. The City Council Ward 4 race was won by Jennifer Clason over Robert E. ‘Bob’ Patterson and Buck Sheward. In the Ward 3 race, Henry Koelzer won over Jewell Nelson and Michael Dickey.

Jessica Bartels, a photography technology student at Oklahoma State University in Okmulgee, recently competed against professional photographers at state and regional competition and won … big time. The 20-year-old earned the Judge’s Choice Award during the Professional Photographers of Oklahoma (PPO) statewide photo contest and convention.

City Gets New Traffic Lights
Four new traffic lights and two flashers have been installed in Okmulgee. The traffic lights have been placed on 6th at Muskogee; Porter and Okmulgee and on 7th at Morton. The flashers are at Eufaula and Okmulgee, and 13th and Choctaw.

Soldier Returns to Beggs After 6 Years in Europe Soldiering for Uncle Sam for years at a stretch is the record of one Okmulgee county boy who returned to his home in Beggs last week. Sergeant R. W. Lankford went through the thick of the fight during the war and has since been with the army of occupation in Germany. He left Beggs in 1917, a small town of 700 people. When he returned last week most of his friends had departed and many strangers greeted him. The city now has paved streets and 3,500 inhabitants.
