Mabrey Been, Henryetta High School senior, and Alexia Holdaway, Beggs High School, were given the 2023 Herman Lee Brown Memorial Scholarships last week at their respective awards programs. Making the presentation during the event was Jan Colombin. Mabrey is the daughter of Justin and Tracy Been. Mabrey is Salutatorian of her class and holds the Board of Education Honor Roll and OSUIT President’s Honor Roll. After graduation, she plans to attend the University of Central Oklahoma to obtain a bachelor’s degree in professional media. Alexia is the daughter of Anthony and Katie Holdaway, She is listed on the Dean’s Honor Roll at OSUIT and Superintendent’s Honor Roll. She plans to attend Tulsa Community College to study drafting after her high school graduation. The scholarship is in memory of the longtime editor and sports writer of the Okmulgee Times, who passed in 2017.
