The Wilson Lady Tiger varsity fastpitch softball team came away with a 3-2 record at last weekend’s New Lima Softball Tournament.
The Lady Tigers began tournament play last Thursday with a 24-1 win over Sasakwa, then suffered a 12-0 setback to Buffalo Valley in last Thursday’s second- round battle. The Wilson squad rebounded from the loss to end Sasakwa’s tournament participation with a 14-2 decision in last Friday’s loser’s bracket second round, then rallied to defeat the Alex Lady Longhorns by a 9-8 margin last Friday in the loser’s bracket third round to avoid elimination once again in the double-elimination tournament.
The Lady Tigers’ bid for the tournament championship came to an end in last Saturday’s loser’s bracket quarterfinals, as the Wilson diamond squad found themselves on the short end of an 11-1 outcome against the Moss Lady Pirates.
The 3-2 finish at the New Lima Tournament puts the Lady Tigers at 9-5 on the year, heading into this weekend’s Mounds Tournament. The Wilson squad will begin tournament play at Mounds Thursday at 4 p.m. against the Inola Lady Longhorns.
