Pastor Mickey Baldwin, Mayor of Okmulgee, invites the community to a special prayer event on Sept. 21.
The Fall Prayer Gathering will be held on the north side of Council House Square in downtown Okmulgee beginning at 6 p.m.
“The City of Okmulgee doesn’t stand alone as we are all connected as citizens of cities in this incredibly diverse county,” Baldwin said.
He will be joined by Okmulgee County Commis- sioner District 1 Dr. Erik Zoellner, along with other ministers and community leaders.
Zoellner will release his Rock Dove Pigeons, named Peace, Love and Joy, at 6 p.m.
“We will continue to spread Peace, Love, and Joy to the four corners of our county,” Baldwin said. The release will be promptly at 6 p.m., so all are urged to arrive early.”
The collaboration between Baldwin and Zoellner came about recently as the two men met to discuss some of the recent events and tragedies taking place within the county.
Baldwin and Zoellner thought the releases would be a good symbol of what’s really important for people longterm.
“Releasing the birds is a reminder of God’s love for all of us and a good opportunity to pause and reflect, focusing on looking up and collaborating with others to continue to work on solving issues instead of continual rock throwing,” Zoellner stated.
Zoellner and Baldwin are hopeful that all citizens around the area can join them in this event and “look up and see that there are so many great things about our county, and together we can achieve anything.”
