EM Director gives weekly report
District 1 Commissioner Erik Zoellner expressed his hopes to see Juneteenth recognized as a federal holiday by Okmulgee County. He said that several members of his team had asked him to consider this. It has already been recognized as a federal holiday since 2021.
The City of Okmulgee approved adding Juneteenth as a holiday during their session several months ago.
Zoeller also proposed granting an extra paid vacation day when July 4th falls on a Tuesday or Thursday. In the case of a Thursday holiday, he recommended providing Friday off, and for a Tuesday holiday, granting Monday off.
The vote is scheduled for next month.
