God, by inspiration, chose to have testimonies of the personal experiences of many Bible characters recorded in the sacred Scriptures. It has long been my practice in my preaching to draw more upon those Bible experiences than on those of my own or of personal acquaintances to illustrate Bible truths. We find, however, in I Corinthians 10:11 that the happenings of Bible personages were recorded for our example and admonition. We have Elijah described as a man of powerful prayer who “was a man subject to like passions as we are,” (James 5:17).
