The bi-annual membership meeting of the Okmulgee Community Garden Corporation is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at the Okmulgee County Fairgrounds meeting room, according to Ann Alexander, chairman of the Garden’s Board of Directors.
In addition to carrying out general business activity, Alexander stated the purpose of the meeting is to consider a change to the Garden’s bylaws regarding the number of elected board members, and forming a nominations committee. Reports from Alexander and Bob Seebeck, garden executive director, along with the financial report, will be given to garden members.
According to Alexander, current bylaws require the board of directors be composed of not more than four directors who shall be elected by the membership of the corporation. The proposed bylaw revision increases the number of directors to five. She says bylaws will continue to stipulate all directors will serve until their terms expire or until their successors are elected or appointed, or their required position vacated.
A nominating committee will be formed at the meeting, and will be charged with nominating possible directors for election in June. The terms of two current directors are expiring in June.
Those two directors are Alexander and Norma Kemp. Director Mark LeMieux has been appointed by the board as chairman of the nominations committee.
Garden membership applications and garden plot applications will be available at the meeting. Membership fee is $10.
Alexander says all garden members and anyone interested in becoming a member are invited to attend the meeting.
