The Prayer of an Old Man
“In thee, O Lord, do I take refuge ... for thou art my rock and my fortress.” (Psalms 71 1a and 3b) As I studied my Bible a few days ago, I glanced at the heading on the top of the page that contained the chapter from which the above passage came. When I read, “The Prayer of an Old Man,” I paused long enough to realize that, well, here I am. Not as a male, of course, but very quickly heading into old age. All things being relative, however, especially when traveling away from 40 at supersonic speed, I also realized that people in King David’s time were ancient if they hit 70, so it’s all good.
