Delorse Stanley Courson passed away at her home in Tulsa on Monday, March 4, 2024, she was 99 years old.
Delorse was born in Shirley, Arkansas in 1924 to Wilson and Almira (Sumner) Stanley. She and her four siblings were all raised in Nuyaka. Delorse graduated from Nuyaka High School as valedictorian. She met and married Roy Austin Courson on May 12, 1943, they lived and worked as grocers for over twenty years in the Okmulgee community where they raised their son, Charles, before moving to Tulsa.
Delorse was a devoted wife, mother, and an active worshiper at Garnett Road Baptist Church where she attended faithfully for over sixty years. She loved the changing colors of the fall foliage on the bus trips she took with her husband after their retirement, playing games with her friends in the park, making creamed corn for her granddaughter’s after school snack and singing hymns alongside her fellow parishioners in the pews at September 14, 1924 – March 4, 2024
GRBC. Delorse was a dedicated Christian in the truest sense of the word that loved thy neighbor and cherished her family. She will be deeply missed.
Delorse is survived by her beloved son, Charles Courson and his wife Tommie Dale of Stilwell; granddaughter Patricia Wirsum; and great-granddaughter Vivian Wirsum of Chicago.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2024, with Pastor Danny Ketcher.
