Winner to be selected in July
The Morris Public School Board took a moment during Monday’s meeting to honor Nichole Leib, a recent nominee for Oklahoma Teacher of the Year. Leib has been recognized among the top ten finalists for the prestigious award.
“We are extremely proud of her and what she’s been able to accomplish,” Superintendent Chris Karch said.
Leib talked a bit about the selection process, explaining that because she was district teacher of the year last year, she was now able to apply for the state award.
She will travel for an interview at the state capitol next month, with the winner to be unveiled at a gala in July.
“So it’s very exciting and I’m just so proud to represent Morris and thank you so much for the opportunity,” Leib said.
In other business, the board approved all items on the consent agenda, including contract renewals with Wonderfully Made Therapy Group, LLC and Ruth Kelly Studio.
The board also discussed the middle school archery team’s notable achievement of once again qualifying for nationals, and plans for their recent travel. Additionally, two employee resignations were accepted.
The board reviewed and accepted the audit report for the fiscal year 2022-23, as presented by Patten & Odom, CPAs, PLLC.
A new contract with Barlow Education Management Services was approved to cover grant writing expenses, alongside temporary appropriations for fiscal year 2025: $9,575,000 for the general fund, $750,000 for the building fund, and $1 million for the child nutrition fund.
Following an executive session, the board approved high school coaching assignments for the upcoming year: Chris Barbee, Wrestling; Brandon Heath, Boys Basketball and Parker Ballard, Girls Basketball.
