Senator Warren Hamilton, serving the seventh district of Oklahoma, was the speaker at the last class for Biblical Citizenship studies at the American Legion Post 10 on Sunday.
Throughout our history, American pastors and churches have played a vital role in establishing and preserving religious and civil liberty.
The class was eight weeks long, meeting on Monday evenings, watching discussions on the founding fathers as the birth of our nation was taking place. The Biblical Citizenship course includes a captivating overview of the Constitution, filmed in Independence Hall where it was actually framed, along with historically accurate and intriguing facts and artifacts from the founding era, all enhanced with teachings and interviews from pastors and other Christian leaders who are engaged in today’s cultural battles.
Using the workbook allowed members to follow along with the discussions, take notes and fill in high points brought forward by the speakers and quotes of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
One of the things that surprised some was the fact that the phrase “separation of Church and State” is not in the Preamble nor the Constitution. This and the elimination of history by presidents opened eyes to how hard it has come to maintain our Republic, and the difference of it and a Democracy.
Senator Hamilton, a graduate of West Point, served in the U. S. Army and continues to serve America now as an Oklahoma State Senator. His closing speech covered his time as a soldier, his call to the Senate and hope that others will study the State and the Country’s Constitution. He awarded graduates with a class medal while Patti Ogden gave each a copy of the Declaration of Independence.
