Leona June Slape was born on Wednesday, June 21, 1933, in Ty Valley to the late Salomon D. and Alice (Goad) Lewis. She passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024, in Eufaula at 90 years of age.
June married Bill Fleming and to this union four sons were born. After Bill’s passing, she married Jay Slape. She enjoyed sewing, making jewelry and was a certified teacher as well as an artisan of Choctaw beadwork. June loved horses, especially rodeoing and barrel racing. Later on, she trained quarter horses for racing. June was a truck driver for fifteen years before becoming a security guard at the Double-Tree Hotel in Tulsa. She was a longtime member of the AQHA.
June was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Bill Fleming and Jay Slape; a son, Harold Duncan Fleming; and siblings, Naomi Sue Gordon, Coriene (Happy) Emerson, Chief Anderson Lewis, Robert Alvis (Cotton) Lewis and Imagene Leezy.
Survivors include her sons, Daniel Clay Fleming, June 21, 1933 – March 20, 2024
Bert Andrew Fleming, Sr. and Anderson Patrick Fleming; grandchildren, Sara Lynn Fleming, Jessica Dawn Thornburg, Bert Fleming, Jr., Kelly Fleming and Kimberly Dawn Fleming; great grandchildren, Joshua Thornburg, Emma Thornburg, Andrew Fleming, and Sheridan Fleming; and numerous nieces and nephews.
No services are planned at this time.
