New superintendent’s contract approved
Morris Public Schools held their board meeting on Monday, beginning with a vote to keep the offices of the board the same, with Kendall Warren as as president, James Allred as vice-president, and Mark Mabrey as board clerk.
This was followed by the approval of all consent agenda items, including the minutes from meetings on March 11, 18 and 25 and financial reports. The board also approved contract renewals with Interquest Canines, The Compliance Resource Group, the Organization of Rural Schools (OROS), Tom Cameron and Associates, and the Department of Rehabilitation Services. Additionally, they approved an overnight trip to Atlanta for the high school academic team.
During his report, Superintendent Dr. Chris Karch talked about the number of events happening at this part of the year and encouraged the board members and community to get out and support the students as much as they can.
He also gave an update on their elementary gymnasium’s roofing issues. After consultation between himself, incoming Superintendent Becky Alexander, Maintenance Director Tim Stewart, and representatives from Tecta America, Dr. Karch said that initial estimates put roof resurfacing and other repairs at just under $100,000 and indicated that the board is likely to address it soon.
After returning from an executive session, the board hired Kayla Rush to teach middle school math, Sarah Stoffels as assistant band director, and a contract with Becky Alexander was approved. They also approved summer pay of $35 for driver’s education.
