Okmulgee County 4-H Summer Camp Lineup Set

This summer, the Okmulgee County 4-H is set to offer a diverse range of educational and recreational camps for young enthusiasts, hosted by the Oklahoma State University (OSU) Extension Office in Okmulgee. These camps aim to engage youth in various aspects of science, technology, nature, and arts, fostering both learning and fun.

Camp Schedule and Highlights

  1. STEM Power Camp: Kicking off on May 20th, this camp focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Participants will explore how these fields can be fun and beneficial. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  2. Food Showdown University: Scheduled for May 23rd, this session will teach various techniques and rules to enhance the Food Showdown game, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m..
  3. Outdoor Camp: On May 30th, this camp invites children to explore the great outdoors with activities centered on fishing, aquatic habitats, and trapping, lasting from 9 a.m. to 14 p.m.
  4. Beautification Camp: On June 6th and 17th, attendees will contribute to making their fairgrounds beautiful and take pride in their community, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  5. Fair Camps: Set for June 24th and 25th, these sessions encourage creating new items that can be entered in the fair, each session running from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  6. Paracord Braiding Camp: On July 10th, participants will learn to make various items like horse halters and dog leashes from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  7. Leather Workshop: On July 31st, this workshop allows children to create custom leather goods such as key tags and tooled bracelets, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

 

New Addition: 4-H is for the Birds Camp

A special camp titled “4-H is for the Birds” will be conducted on July 16th by the Oklahoma State University State STEM Team. This new addition aims to teach participants about local bird species and their habitats through interactive activities. The session will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at a cost of just $5.

Registration and Fees

Each camp requires a small fee ranging from $5 to $15 to cover supplies and refreshments. The camps are primarily held at the Okmulgee County Extension Office, with the location for the outdoor camp yet to be determined. Interested participants are encouraged to register early as space is limited, and the deadlines are set a week prior to each camp’s commencement.

For more details or to sign up, please contact the Okmulgee County Extension Office at 918-756-1958. Final information for each camp, including specific details and any additional requirements, will be sent out prior to its registration deadline.

This summer promises to be an enriching and fun-filled time for Okmulgee’s youth, with a wide array of activities designed to spark creativity and a love for learning in a supportive environment.
