Proverbs 24:29 - “Do not say, ‘Thus I shall do to him as he has done to me; I will render to the man according to his work.’” As fallible human beings, we sometimes want to witness the take-down of someone who has caused us pain or hardship. There may even be times when we would like to instigate those proceedings. Understand, though, there is a vast difference about having feelings and carrying them out. Because we have a sinful nature, of course thoughts flit through our minds, but if we are faithful and diligent, we can stop their progression into bigger and worse problems. It takes faith and a genuine reliance on the Lord’s leading, but it can be done. No matter what, we are to forgive without end - seventy times seven (Matthew 18:22) - and leave things not under our control in the hands of the Lord, knowing for sure we all must answer for our acts. Is it always easy to let it go? Of course not, but the more we practice reliance on the Lord, the closer to second nature it becomes. And when that happens, we can more readily see that, whatever the circumstances, we are strong and secure in the hands that made us and that He will handle everything in His own good time.
