Due to the recent dumping of unwanted items at the City of Okmulgee Recycle Center, located at 3rd and Muskogee Streets, some reminders have been given to those using the center: The City of Okmulgee Recycle Center contracts with Tulsa Recycle & Transfer to provide the service for the collection of paper, bottles and plastic containers, aluminum and steel cans and cartons. They provide the large rolloff and then exchange it when full. They then sort the recyclables from non recyclable material.
Unfortunately, many visitors are disposing of items that do not belong in the roll-off.
• Putting non-recyclable materials in this roll-off fills it quicker and causes issues with scheduling the exchange.
• This results in trash being left on the ground and creating a mess.
• Adding trash also increases costs and decreases the effectiveness of the recycling process.
The Recycle Center does not allow styrofoam of any kind or plastic bags.
Please use cardboard boxes or reusable totes to bring your recyclables to the center.
At the center, there is a separate trailer provided for cardboard and visitors are asked to break down your cardboard and use the trailer.
The large container is for metal only. No TVs, no mattresses, no refrigerators, etc.
Please follow the rules of the Recycling Center and remember that the center maintenance is one of many responsibilities of the city’s Sanitation staff.
