Steve Ward, recently election District 2 County Commissioner, was the speaker for the Lions Club on Tuesday.
Ward lives at Liberty Morris and is a graduate of Morris High School. He is 51 years old and married to his wife who is a registered nurse.
His job as commissioner is 90% at the courthouse doing business and 10% working on repairing the roads. Ward shared that the rural Okmulgee county roads are difficult, and the courthouse work is an ongoing process.
Ward’s goals for this year are workers cutting back trees from roadways, cleaning tinhorn out and pulling the ditches. He also shared that District 2 gets $1.4 million from various sources.
Ward has begun preparation for his new post, which includes opening and recording meetings and complete new commissioner training.
Ward has owned a fencing company for 30 years and his son is to take over the business.
He also added that county revenue comes from 1/2 sales tax, % of fuel tax, state money and city sales taxes.
