A new housing initiative is set to provide much-needed support for veterans in Okmulgee, addressing the growing concern of veteran homelessness while simultaneously stimulating the local economy. The Oklahoma Veterans Community Initiative (OVCI) first presented its comprehensive plan at the City Council meeting in September, with veteran Lonnie Johnson spearheading the effort, and Okmulgee native Dr. JM Lewis, informing the council and the public about their vision and potentially gaining support.
