In its ongoing commitment to ensure program quality and uphold public transparency, Oklahoma Human Services, pursuant to 74 O.S. §227.8, has formally requested an audit of its Child Care Desert Startup Grant program by State Auditor and Inspector Cindy Byrd. The requested audit will seek an examination of the program from its inception to the present. This action follows an initial internal review by the agency’s Office of Inspector General.
“As in all areas of our work, Oklahoma Human Services is committed to being a self-correcting system that continuously performs its due diligence and maintains a strong focus on excellence,” said Jeffrey Cartmell, Director of Human Services. “We intend to hold bad actors accountable. We are thankful for the support of Oklahoma Auditor and Inspector Cindy Byrd, and we pledge full transparency and cooperation throughout the audit process.”
The Child Care Desert Startup Grant program was established to increase the availability of quality child care programs in areas of Oklahoma with significant need. While this goal remains critical, the agency is committed to its responsibility to discover and address any potential instances of misuse, fraud or self-dealing.
