The History of Okmulgee’s American Legion Post 10
There is a beginning in all history and Post 10’s history started at the end of WW1 when a group of war-weary veterans came home to a changing world, with a brotherhood determined to care for themselves and other veterans. While awaiting passage home the American Expeditionary Force convened in Paris, France and held the first American Legion caucus. The American Legion concept was presented to Congress and on September 16, 1919, chartered as a patriotic veteran’s organization; focusing on service to veterans, service members and communities, and has evolved into one of the most influential nonprofit groups in the United States.
