A tragic vehicle collision on Nov. 8 led to the death of a 37-year-old Edmond woman on Interstate 40, approximately two miles east of Henryetta. The accident occurred around 4:45 p.m. amid rainy weather conditions that left the road wet and slick.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported that the accident involved a single vehicle, a 2011 Honda Accord driven by Laura Carroll. Carroll, the sole occupant, was traveling eastbound when the collision occurred. Following the crash, Okmulgee County EMS transported Carroll to Henryetta Main Hospital in critical condition, where she was pronounced deceased by medical staff at 5:22 p.m.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation, as is Carroll’s condition at the time of the incident. According to officials, Carroll was properly restrained, and the vehicle’s airbags deployed as intended. The wet roadway may have contributed to the fatal outcome, but authorities have not yet confirmed any specific factors leading to the collision.
Following the impact, the victim was pinned inside the vehicle. Emergency responders from the Henryetta Fire Department extricated her by 5 p.m., working quickly to transport her to medical care. Despite their efforts, her injuries proved fatal.
