The Okmulgee County Criminal Justice Authority (OCCJA) 911 Telecommunications Center held a meet and greet at the Okmulgee County Emergency Management building, fostering collaboration among local agencies. While most surrounding county dispatch centers were unable to attend, Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Dispatch Coordinator Lynn Anderson actively participated in discussions with OCCJA administration, including Jeffrey Moore, Director of Okmulgee County Emergency Management, and OCCJA Dispatch Coordinator Randi Hirsch.
The event focused on the challenges both agencies face, particularly in developing a comprehensive Emergency Continuity Plan. This plan aims to ensure uninterrupted operations and effective communication with emergency services during crises or major disasters.
OCCJA Executive Director Shannon T. Clark emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation, noting, “Mother Nature has no regard for jurisdictional boundaries. Any agency may experience damage to or loss of its telecommunications infrastructure. However, with proper planning and coordination, we remain optimistic that, in the event of an emergency, participating agencies can support each other effectively.”
The discussion highlighted the evolution of dispatch systems towards cloud-based technology. This advancement allows for seamless transition and collaboration; should an agency’s telecommunications system be compromised, sharing resources could be as straightforward as connecting a laptop or accessing a prearranged dispatch console at another agency.
As they move forward, the agencies are united in their goal to enhance public safety through innovative solutions and collaborative efforts. The meet and greet marks a significant step in strengthening ties among local telecommunication centers, benefiting Okmulgee County and the Muscogee Nation.
