The Preston High School boys basketball team secured a decisive 60-41 victory over Eufaula on Dec. 17.
The first quarter saw the Pirates jump out to an early lead, outscoring the Ironheads 14-9. This momentum continued into the second quarter with Preston extending their advantage to a commanding 30-12 lead at halftime. While Eufaula attempted a comeback in the third quarter, scoring 16 points to Preston’s 20, Preston maintained control. The final quarter solidified the Pirates’ dominance, ending with a final score of 60-41.
Preston displayed a well-rounded team effort, boasting a 52.1% field goal percentage and a 58.3% effective field goal percentage. Their offensive strategy was effective, scoring 36 points in the paint and capitalizing on turnovers for 10 additional points. The team’s defensive efforts were equally impressive, limiting Eufaula’s scoring opportunities and securing 24 defensive rebounds.
Tanner Young led the scoring with an impressive 24 points, showcasing excellent shooting accuracy. Jayden Smith’s 17 points and Phoenix Finch’s 14 points also contributed significantly to the team’s total.

Preston: 14, 16, 20, 10 Eufaula: 9, 3, 16, 13 – Tanner Young was the top scorer once again as the Pirates downed Kellyville 51-30 on Dec. 20.
Young scored 17 points, followed by Kent Rice with 8; Jayden Smith also had 8, Ethan Moore 7, Pheonix Finch 4, Bradley Winford 3, Caden Hollier, Jacobie Crawford and BIshop Bert with 2 each.
The next action for the Pirates will be on Jan. 3, 2025, with Red Oak visiting Preston for court action.
