April 13, 1952 – November 22, 2024
William Curtis Doan passed away unexpectedly on November 22, 2024, at his residence in Okmulgee. He was born in a small hospital near Fayetteville, Ark. on an Easter Sunday morning, April 13, 1952, to John Cannon Doan and Patricia Rogers Doan.
He was quite a character with one of the most brilliant minds. He was a walking “Google Search” or Encyclopedia – could spontaneously answer any question about any subject. Although, due to nerve damage over the years, he had lost much of the dexterity of his fingers, in his youth he played the most amazing ragtime music by ear – at the age of 20, he played ragtime piano at Shakey’s Pizza and could really bring down the house. When he played he used all 88 keys at a speed that literally made his hands disappear.
He built player pianos and arranged music on player piano rolls. He could also wire and plumb your house and talk nuclear physics with you. He also had the Doan/ Rogers legendary sense of humor. And those folks that served him at the Boomerang, The Rodeo and Kirby’s got to know his specific orders perfectly!
He is already greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. WR Rogers, Mr. and Mrs. HC Doan; his parents, John and Patricia Doan; and one little great-nephew, John Cannon Doan Gaston. He is survived by his sisters, Sarah Doan Schmitz and husband Mike of Okmulgee and Mary Virginia Doan Gaston and husband Lee of Galveston, Texas and a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service, under the direction of McClendon- Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee, will take place on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 11 a.m. followed by a family lunch.
