Superintendent Becky Alexander issued the following statement this week: “Morris Public Schools is saddened to learn of the passing of Morris High School junior McKinley McGirt on Jan. 14 following an illness. To assist students, staff and faculty in processing this tragedy, grief counselors, the Morris Ministerial Alliance, and therapy dogs will be available on campus starting Jan. 15. Morris Public Schools extends its heartfelt condolences to McKinley’s family and friends in this difficult time. McKinley will be missed.”
Supt. Alexander thanked everyone for all the support given this week to the students and staff.
“We are grateful for our Ministerial Alliance, CREOKS, and Anne Moroney providing guidance for us … We are truly grateful for our neighboring schools Okmulgee and Henryetta for sending their therapy dogs. Thank you as well to GCTC for the support. Our students and staff are forever indebted for the kindness that was shown today. We are so blessed to be a part of Okmulgee County.”
McKinley was a member of the State-winning Morris Academic Team. See McKinelys’ obituary on page B3 of today’s edition.
