The Okmulgee County Sheriff ’s Office (OCSO) is warning residents about a recent phone scam involving a caller claiming to be “Deputy Simmons.” Reports indicate that the caller ID shows the Sheriff ’s Office number, but officials confirm this is a spoofed number generated through fraudulent apps.
The OCSO emphasizes that they will never contact residents by phone to request money. This scam is suspected to be linked to a suspect operating outside the country. Investigators are actively working on the case and plan to pursue criminal prosecution if the suspect is identified.
Residents are urged not to provide personal information, credit card details, or bank account information to anyone claiming to be a deputy over the phone. If you receive such a call, hang up immediately.
