Community Garden Accepting Donations for Parking Lot Sale
The Okmulgee County Community Garden is accepting donations for the parking lot sale it’s holding in conjunction with Okmulgee’s City-Wide Garage Sale. The sale takes place in the parking lot between the garden and the Okmulgee County Health Department.
This is one of the garden’s few fundraisers, and all proceeds will go to help the garden meet its mission of encouraging and promoting education opportunities of horticulture, environment, and health for all citizens in the greater Okmulgee County area.
Each year the garden provides a large amount of produce to local food pantries and shelters. Funding helps with the cost of seeds, soil, utilities, and upkeep for the greenhouse.
Beginning in June, the garden will once again partner with the YMCA GO Summer Youth Camp and the Extension Service of the College of the Muscogee Nation to help introduce the young campers to vegetable gardening.
The campers will visit the garden twice a week for six weeks and will learn about how to plant, grow, and harvest vegetables, along with learning about the Three Sisters method of gardening and the importance of pollinators.
Anyone wanting to donate items for the garden’s sale can call Garden Board Member Dr. Ed Osborn at 918-812-6373 or Garden Executive Director Bob Seebeck at 918-231-3543 to make arrangements to pick up the items or to drop them off at the garden.
