American author of children’s books, Doreen Cronin celebrates her birth date on March 28th, 1966 in Queens, New York. She grew up on Long Island, her dad was a police officer. In elementary school one of her teachers discovered it was easier for Doreen to write than talk out loud as she was very shy as a child.
Doreen attended Pennsylvania State University and St. John’s University Law School. She completed law school and her first book published in 2000, a picture book Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type around the same time. She married an attorney Andrew Cronin and they had two children.
Doreen decided to start writing children’s books full time and gave up her practice as a Manhattan attorney. Her books have won many awards including nine of her books are Junior Library Guild selections. The Chicken Squad was named one of the best books of the year by Bank Street College of Education in 2015. In 2016, Click, Clack, Peep! received the same award. Smick was awarded best picture book by Booklist in 2015.
Doreen now lives in New York with her husband and dog “Ruffie.”
