Happy Spring! from your local Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, located at Eastern Oklahoma Development District, Area Agency on Aging. This month is National Volunteer Month and we would like to recognize all those who devote time to others and if you are looking for a way to give back. We are always seeking volunteers looking to make a difference in someone’s life, one visit at a time. If you are an individual that has empathy and patience for our most vulnerable, becoming an Ombudsman Volunteer may be the way you can contribute to your community.
Long-Term Care Ombudsmen serve as advocates for residents in long-term care facilities which includes nursing homes, assisted living, and residential care facilities. We investigate complaints, and help improve overall quality of life. Our role is to inform residents and their families about residents’ rights, and provide resources to address any concerns.
Most individuals who live in long-term care may have little or no family visiting them. Ombudsmen volunteers can assist in empowering residents and ensure their needs are being met. Come be the voice for those unable or unwilling to speak up for themselves.
If you would just like to learn about long-term care, you are welcome to participate in the training and later decide if you would like to join in our advocacy efforts. The next online training will be April 8-12.
If you have any questions regarding long-term care, please feel free to contact your local ombudsman at Eastern Oklahoma Development District (EODD) Area Agency on Aging: Dominique Bonilla 918-682-7891
